Guess what people!! I found another similarity! From my “extra-intense-long-time research,” I found that two different music cultures share a similarity even in their historical background. It’s about their oral tradition. Iranian traditional music is greatly depended on each successive generation’s memory and mastery; in other words, its oral tradition. To truly learn and absorb the essence of the Radif, which is a collection of old melodies that have been handed down by the masters to the students through the generations, many years of repetition and practice are required. (Capwell) When looking at Blues, most of the Blues singers learn songs by imitation, whether in person or from records. (Capwell) Learning from my research, there are no formal lessons. This point also brings a connection between the two different music cultures that both songs are learned by generation after generation and it’s learned naturally in daily ritual or in social life rather than a formal teaching.

I am absolutely stunned at your research and connections. Seems like you have more passion in music than me! Haha. By the way, that was a compliment. (;

Thanks! It actually gave me an opportunity to learn about other music cultures around the world. I really think that this blog provided me with great knowledge.

WOW... It's already our fifth day writing these blogs and discussions! Look how much work we have progressed! It's actually unbelievable and astounding. When I first chose these two music pieces, I had no clue how far we would be able to work and analyze through it. Even though they are music pieces from different cultures, when we take them apart in pieces, we find a connection; and that’s why I think music is so powerful. Music is all over the world and music from different cultures sound so different but when we peel it and look inside, there’s always some connection to it. I think so far this is enough for these two music pieces.

Yea, I absolutely agree with you. When I first saw the music that you have chosen, I was curiously stunned, but I actually learned a variety of things through our analysis and researching.
